San Bernardino has long been a transportation center, and it remains so today. The earliest Spanish explorers passed overland through the San Bernardino Valley to get to northern California, and later during the mission era, a mission outpost was started here in 1810. Later Railroads followed the old trails and crossed the valley to Los Angeles. Today the valley is accessible by Ontario International Airport, and major Interstate Highways 10, 15 and 215, making it a major logistical center to the rest of the country.
